Our Place on Earth

Part of the Colonial Coast, our special place on Earth is a geographical area of Chatham County, Georgia, with 30.71% water. The Colonial Coast is an area in southeast Georgia. The region is so named for the small section of Georgia's border which is located on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Chatham County connects to the coast of South Carolina to the north.

Initially promoted in the 1730s as England’s “paradise,” the Town of Savannah was built into a lush garden of flora, fauna and forests.

There are eight municipalities within Chatham County, Georgia: Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Savannah, Thunderbolt , Tybee Island and Vernonburg. The City of Savannah is the county seat. Unincorporated areas such as Georgetown, Isle of Hope, Montgomery, Skidaway Island, Whitemarsh Island and Wilmington Island are a part of Chatham County's geography. more less

Each municipality and county government manages its water usage, quality, compliance, and abuse throughout Chatham County. Water Resource Management, through the Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission, serves as a central resource working in concert with participating municipal leaders and county officials.

With its treasured and cultivated beauty, one National Geographic travel writer called the area “dreamy Savannah.”
