Teacher Tips & Ideas

When learning about water resources, it is important to consider how water is processed, delivered to, and taken away from our homes, businesses, and industries. A quarterly Water Sprout newsletter gives insights for resources and Chatham-Savannah area activites. Recieving it is as simple as signing up below under "SIGN UP FOR EMAIL UPDATES."

EDUCATOR RESOURCES

Drinkable water is not free. Water treatment facilities and the distribution of water is costly. We must remember this and not take water for granted when we turn on our taps, take showers, and water our lawns. If you would like more information, please call the Water Conservation Office at 651-1454.

City Hall Tours -- The City of Savannah’s Public Information Office gives tours of City Hall to the students of schools throughout Savannah, Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Savannah, Thunderbolt, Tybee Island, and Chatham County. During these tours, the City of Savannah staff speaks to the children about protection of water resources. more lessThis brief lecture covers where water comes from, saltwater intrusion, how to conserve water, storm water pollution and how to prevent water pollution. The teachers participating in the City Hall tours get an extensive informational packet on Water Resources to use in their classrooms and a copy of the Water Sourcebook for their grade level.

Water Sourcebook for Teachers. The Water Resources Program purchases Water Sourcebooks for teachers in all Chatham County - Savannah public schools. The books are geared for grade levels K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. All grade levels are available on the CD-ROM. Lessons use water and water issues to interest students in every subject including: language arts, science, math and art. The Water Sourcebook was produced by The United States Environmental Protection Agency, Legacy, Inc and the Water Environment Federation; and is distributed in Georgia by the Georgia Water Wise Council. For more information on the Water Sourcebook please contact the Water Resources Program or the Georgia Water Wise Council @ 1033 Franklin Road, Suite 9-187 Marietta, GA 30067.
