Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) is an assessment of the likely human environmental health impact, risk to economical health, and changes to natural services that a project may have. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision-makers consider the environmental impacts before deciding whether to proceed with a new projects.

Under U.S. environmental law, an EIA is referred to as an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and initiated in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) in 1969.
MPC RESOURCES PROTECTION COMMITTEE
In an effort to be proactive in its planning approach, the MPC Executive
Director requested participation from a diverse group of individuals to
join the MPC Resources Protection Committee. The purpose of the MPC
Resources Protection Committee is to identify significant natural resource
areas throughout Chatham County for protection, conservation, or rehabilitation. The Committee is focusing on one area at a time to
identify properties of interest. For more information on the Committee or
